Abstract
The increase of triglycerides level can cause the increase of atherosclerosis, diabetes mellitus, ischemic stroke’s prevalences. This research aimed to determine the effectiveness of antihyperlipidemia of Binahong (Basella alba) leaves on triglyceride levels in Wistar white male rats that have been induced by high-lipid diet. This research used experimental tests which using research design with pre and posttests, control group design. The samples were divided into 4 groups: group I received Binahong extract 250 mg dose; group II received Binahong extract 125 mg dose; group III received Binahong extract 6.25 mg dose, and group IV received high cholesterol feed induction. Administration of the test material was done every day during the seven-day treatment period. The statistical test used is the one-way ANOVA. Statistical analysis showed significant difference in the 250 mg and 125 mg dose groups, compared to 62.5 dose group that showed no significant difference. The conclusion of this study is that there are significant differences between the four treatments. These results show that the leaves of Binahong (Basella alba) plant have an effect in lowering triglyceride levels.
