Abstract
Cardiovascular disease is the world's largest contributor to mortality. One of its important risk factor is hypertension. Morbidity rate of hypertension can be minimized with pharmacologic and non harmacologic treatment. There is one therapy rarely used in Indonesia, and can be taken as a complementary therapy, namely music therapy. This research aims to find out the effect of slow and fast tempo Indonesian instrumental music towards blood pressure of hypertensive patient in Puskesmas Pamulang. This is a comparative analytical research which uses cross-sectional design. Sampling method used in this research is consecutive sampling. The number of subjects in this research is 24 people. The collected data were analyzed using paired T test and Wilcoxon for abnormal distribution of data. Statistical tests show that there is significant difference between resting systolic blood pressure (BP) 1 and systolic BP after listening to the slow music with statistical result p=0,000 (p<0,05), significant difference between resting diastolic BP 1 and diastolic BP after listening to the slow music with statistical result p=0,010 (p<0,05), significant difference between resting systolic BP 2 and systolic BP after listening to the fast music with statistical result p=0,002 (p<0,05), and significant difference between resting diastolic BP 2 and diastolic BP after listening to the fast music with statistical result p=0,002 (p<0,05). Based on this research, slow tempo music can act as a complementary therapy in hypertension.
