Abstract
The high numbers of foodborne disease, especially diarrhea that caused by the contamination of Escherichia coli on street food showed the lack of hygiene and sanitation management of
the street food. Cilok is one of the most favored by people because the reachable price and they were easy to get. The purpose of this research was to find out the relation between hygiene and sanitation of food handlers with the E. coli contamination of cilok. This kind of research was an observational descriptive with cross sectional research design on 33 cilok sellers in Pondok Labu Region on March 2016. Samples were taken by purposive sampling technique. The result showed that contamination of E. coli that passed the maximum limit of microbe contamination on food found in 20 (60.6%) of the samples. Based of the statistical test result chi square obtained p = 0.005 (p<0.05) that can be concluded that there’s a relation between food handler with the contamination of E. coli. Control and counseling are needed by institutions about the important of hygiene and sanitation of street foods so that street foods that sold on streets can fill the health terms.
