Abstract
Problem Maternal mortality remains a fundamental problem of Indonesian where in 2005 there were 290.8 per hundred thousand live births. Scope of delivery assistance by health workers in North Minahasa regency still low at 44.8%. This study aims to determine the factors that influence the choice of birth attendant between the midwives and traditional birth attendants in the Kampung Ambong Likupang East Regional Health Center work. The study was a descriptive cross-sectional observational design. The population in this study were all mothers who have given birth in 2010 both by medical and non-medical delivery childbirth of 110 mothers, residing in Kampung Ambong, District East Likupang. Subjects in the study who meet the inclusion criteria were willing to be interviewed, able to communicate well and in good health, labor ever did was a normal delivery, residing in Kampung Ambong, and was selected by 50 respondents, 37 respondents were assisted by trained non-health workers and 13 respondents were assisted by health personnel. The results showed a significant association between maternal employment with delivery childbirth attendants (P <0.01), there is a significant association between maternal labor culture in the delivery childbirth attendants (P <0.01)
