THE DESCRIPTION OF MOTHER’S KNOWLEDGE LEVEL ON DENTAL CARIES WITH THE NUMBER OF DENTAL CARIES OF THE KIDS AT THE KINDERGARTEN MASYITHOH MAESAN LENDAH KULON PROGO Khrisma Aprilia1, Siti Sulastri2, Aryani Widayati3 Department of Dental Nursing, Health Polytechnic of Ministry of Education, Yogyakarta, St. Kyai Mojo No. 56 Pingit, Yogyakarta 55243 Email : khrismaprl@gmail.com ABSTRACT Background : Dental caries is damage on the hard tooth tissue due to acid resulting from the interaction of microorganism, saliva, and debris. At age of pre-school, children love consuming sweet food that potentially causes dental caries. The knowledge of mother’s on dental caries will certainly determine the status of dental health in children. Research Purposes : Knowing the description of mother’s knowledge level on dental caries with the number of dental caries of the kids at kindergarten Masyithoh Maesan Lendah Kulon Progo. Research methods : This type of research is descriptive with a cross sectional approach. The population in the research was all mothers and kids at kindergarten Masyithoh Maesan Lendah Kulon Progo. The sampling method used saturated sampling technique, with samples of 25 respondents each mother and child. The data is analyzed using cross-tabulation method. Research result : The result of the research shown that the mother’s knowledge level on dental caries had a good criteria of 64% and the number of caries of many criteria was 88%. Conclusion : The mother’s knowledge level are included in good criteria, while the number of dental caries is included many criteria of 52%.
