When the rotator cuff is injured or damaged, it can become inflamed and painful. The purpose of this research is to know the inspection procedure and the reason for using short tau inversion recovery (STIR) on MRI shoulder Joint examination with rotator cuff tear of case in Radiology Installation RSPAU dr. S. Hardjolukito Yogyakarta. This type of research is qualitative with case study approach. Data were collected in April - May 2017 in Installation of Radiology RSPAU dr. S. Coronal PDW TSE, coronal T2W TSE, coronal STIR, coronal T1W TSE. Sagital T2W TSE and sagital T1W TSE. Patient position is supine, head first and using shoulder coil. The reason for the use of STIR sequences is considered to describe a tear in the tendon, identifying a liquid on T2W is not obvious, and can show the tumor in the bone. Keywords : Procedure, MRI Shoulder Joint, Rotator Cuff Tear, STIR
