The high rates of dental and mouth disease are currently influenced by several factors, one of which is behavioral factors. Behavior plays an important role in influencing both the bad health status of teeth and mouth. One effort to maintain dental health is quite effective with dental health education. The use of media in the process of counseling can maximize the delivery of the message so that it can be received well by the educational goals one of which is the booklet. The purpose of this research is to know the difference of booklet and counseling effectiveness without media booklet to the level of knowledge of dental caries of class V student at SDN 1 Pudak Payung.The type performed in this study was analytic with quasi experimental method using pre-test and post-test design with group control design. The population of this study is the students of grade V SDN 1 Pudak Payung, amounting to 83 students. Measurement of knowledge is done before and after the counseling of each group.The result of the research after being given a booklet indicates that there is an increase of knowledge of dental caries from previously there are 3 children who have poor knowledge become no child having bad knowledge. While the results of research on the group who were given counseling without booklets from 15 children who have bad knowledge there are still 10 children who have bad knowledge. In effectiveness test show p = 0,192, that is, there is no difference of effectivity between giving of booklet and counseling without media booklet to level of knowledge of dental caries of student of class V in SDN 1 Pudak Payung.
