Abstract
Background: Leukorrhea is a frequent complaint of reproductive health problems, 83% of which are candida albicans. Candida albicans resistance to fluconazole (2.9%) and itraconazole (5.4%). Anti-fungus from safer plant screening is able to inhibit the growth of candida albicans. Objective: Explain the potential of thymol compound extract of black cumin seeds (nigella sativa) of various concentrations capable of inhibiting the growth of Candida albicans.Method: This was the true experimental design: post test only control group design. Research subjects were candida albicans culture with complete randomized design technique. Replication 5 times. The independent variables were thymol compounds of black cumin seeds extract at concentration of 12.5%; 25%; 50%; and 100% and the dependent variable was the growth of candida albicans. The growth of candida albicans were measured by calipers. Data analyzed by One Way ANOVA and Post-Hoct..Results: Thymol of black cumin seeds extract with a concentration of 12.5%; 25%, 50%, and 100% potentially inhibit the growth of candida albicans. There were significant differences in the inhibitory growth of candida albicans in the group of variations in thymol concentration (p = 0.000). Thymol compounds of cumin seed extract with a higher concentration are higher in inhibiting the growth of candida albicans. There was no significant difference between the 100% thymol group with the fluconazole group (p> 0.05).Conclusions and Suggestions: Thymol with 100% concentration has the ability equivalent to fluconazole 25 ?g. Thymol compounds extract of black cumin seeds as an alternative potential treatment leukorrhea.
