Abstract
Background : The ability of Lactobacillus acidophilus to synthesize glucans is a critical virulence factor involved in the pathogenesis of dental caries in humans. By preventing glucan production, it can reduce caries activity. Glass ionomer cement and Compomer are a restorative material adhesive in some researches have been proved have antibacterial activity against Lactobacillus acidophilus because fluor release that can inhibit activity glucosiltransferase.Purpose : The aim of this study is to find out the effect of fluor release from Glass ionomer cement dan Compomer to inhibit glucan adherence by Lactobacillus acidophilus.Method : Cylindrical specimen of GIC and Compomer prepared were immersed in artificial saliva. Each sampe were immersed in artificial saliva for 60 minutes and 6 hours then rinsed with PBS. Each sample contaminated with Lactobacillus acidophilus. Using vortex for 1 minute to take out the bacteria from samples. Then incubated for 24 hours. Count the colony with colony counter.Result : There is significance difference between the number of colony of Lactobacillus acidophilus on GIC and Compomer. Conclusion : The effect of fluor release from GIC more effective than Compomer to inhibit glucan adherence by Lactobacillus acidophilus.Keyword : Lactobacillus acidophilus, GIC, Compomer, fluor release and glucan adherence.
