ABSTRACT
Hypercholesterolemia is the increase of total cholesterol levels in blood (> 200 mg/dL). Based on the 2002 WHO Report, 7.9% of CHD deaths were due to hypercholesterolemia. Based on previous research, the average cholesterol level of the Padang people is high with a prevalence of 56.1%. Based on 2017 DKK data, hypercholesterolemic patients at Kuranji Health Center with a prevalence of 25% higher than Lubuk Begalung Health Center (17%) and are the highest among 11 Puskesmas located in Padang
. One of the management to control hypercholesterolemia is dietary regulation by increasing the high fiber food, such as red guava fruit. This study aims to determine the difference in average total cholesterol levels of hypercholesterolemia patients before and after given red guava juice (Psidium guajava l) in working area of Kuranji Health Center in 2019.
The type of this research is pre experimental research, the research was conducted in Kuranji Health Center from December 2018 until February 2019 with total samples were 10 people for 15 days. The Data that has already taken is the result of cholesterol levels before and after given red guava juice with statistical analysis using the Wilcoxon test.
The result of this research shows that the average of cholesterol levels before and after given the guava juice for 15 days are 230,7 + 17,12 mg/dL and 204,5 + 46,13 mg/dL. There is a difference between cholesterol level of hypercholesterolemia patients before and after given the red guava juice (p = 0,04).
More suggestion are given to hypercholesterolemia patients to use red guava fruits to become one of alternative food that can decrease cholesterol levels. For another researchers, need to research more deep and detail about the effect of red guava juice to other lipid profiles completely.
