ABSTRACT
The prevalence of Diabetes Mellitus patients in Indonesia is increasing and making DM disease the highest cause of death because of the complications that arise as an illustration of the poor management. One of the management of DM is complementary therapy from local food that has functional benefits such as Red Dragon. The content of flavonoids, antioxidants and anthocyanins in Red Dragon can reduce fasting blood glucose levels. The research aims to determine the effectiveness of the Red Dragon Pudding.
The quasi-experimental study used pretest-posttest design in DM patients in the Andalas Community Health Center work area. The number of samples is 30 people with purposive sampling. Taking fasting blood glucose levels was carried out by nurses at Andalas Community Health Center with a glucometer. The sample was given a Fruit Content Pudding, a Fruit Rind and Fruit Content Pudding, and a pudding without Red Dragon Fruit. Test results with a dependent t-test to see the difference in average fasting blood glucose levels before and after the intervention. Independent t-test test to see the most effective treatment.
The results showed a decrease in fasting blood glucose levels. In treatment II there was a significant difference between fasting blood glucose levels before and after the intervention. Research in the treatment group II proved effective in reducing fasting blood glucose levels in the control group.
The results of the study prove that the administration of Red Dragon pudding can be given as an alternative snack in DM patients because it decreases fasting blood glucose levels. It is recommended to consume Red Dragon fruit rind which is considered not useful in the form of a Red Dragon Fruit Rind and Fruit Content Pudding in daily life.
