Abstract
There are four subdistricts (kecamatan) surrounding Menoreh mountain in Kulonprogo regency province of Daerah Istimewa Yogyakarta which are malarious endemic areas. Few research and control measures have been carried out to cope with the malaria problem and it remains a public health problem. In 1998, the incidence of malaria obviously increased in comparison with the last 3 years. A comprehensive review on malaria therefore was undertaken at five community health center (puskesmas) or endemic areas. Several aspects such as malariological/parasitological, entomological, human behavioural and epidemio-logical are as part of review. The entomological aspect in one of the puskesmas -reviewed Samigaluh II is reported in this paper. Anopheles balabacensis is the predominant suspected vector althought further confirmation is be needed. Other species to be known as malaria vectors in Java are An. aconitus and An. maculatus.
